10 Reasons I Love Spring

I'm a little bit promiscuous when it comes to my feelings towards the seasons. I feel no shame in admitting it. I love every season. As every season ends, I assure you that at some point I will claim ‘I’m so excited for (insert upcoming season)!’ Sure, every season has its cons, but I strongly believe that these cons are outweighed by a million pros! Now, it’s spring’s time to shine:

10 Reasons I Love Spring

10. Warmer weather

DUH. It’s just nice to be warm. It’s nice to walk outside and not freeze to death. It’s nice to feel the sun on parts of your body that have been hiding all winter. It’s also nice not to melt as soon as you step outside or be drenched in sweat from walking around in the summertime. Spring just has those perfectly warm yet breezy days that are at neither extreme.

9. Clothing

I love all the clothing options that come with spring. Since some days are cooler and some days are warmer, you really get to take advantage of your entire wardrobe. Warmer days are the perfect excuse to wear dresses (I LOVE DRESSES), and cooler days are the perfect excuse for light cardigans and scarves. You are no longer hiding your outfit under a coat, so there’s even more motivation to wear something cute. Not to mention that the light, fresh colors that tend to come with the springtime are my favorite colors to wear.

8. It’s feminine

I’m a girly girl. I’m all about pastel colors and manicures and pedicures and flowers and rainbows and anything pretty. Spring is a very feminine season. Everything looks prettier outdoors, and people FINALLY paint their toe nails because they’re no longer hiding in boots. (Side note: in my defense, my toe nails are ALWAYS painted, I do NOT care if they will be hidden from the world during the winter months.)

7. People are actually outside!

Growing up in western Massachusetts, I was never exactly surrounded by hordes of people. But now that I have lived in both Philadelphia and now, Washington, DC, I’ve noticed this trend. When it’s cold out, even the busiest cities are practically dead. Sure, there are still people out, but they’re all rushing to get indoors. As soon as that first warm spring day comes, however, EVERYONE is outside. Restaurants open their outdoor seating, people are actually walking their dogs instead of rushing them to um, “go potty,” there are people sitting on outdoor benches, parks are full, couples are being corny and doing the whole picnic thing (GUILTY over here, I already told my boyfriend we were SO doing a mimosa picnic ASAP), etc.

6. Festivities

I love Easter. Being Roman Catholic, the holiday is full of tradition for me, and I am certainly not complaining about finally being able to indulge in whatever it is that I gave up for Lent (this year, it was chocolate). Then, it’s my birthday! May 4th, a day when I get gifts, love, and most importantly, CAKE. I’m also lucky enough to have Cinco de Mayo directly follow my birthday, considering that everyone is still in celebration mode and downing Patron shots and margaritas (love the Patron shots over here, the margaritas not so much). Finally, we have Mother’s Day, a day I get to celebrate my #1 favorite person in the whole wide world!

5. The days are longer.

It’s always nice to have more time to do things. Obviously, winter days are also 24 hours, but when it’s nighttime at 5:00pm, I just feel like it’s time to go home and start wrapping the day up. Looking outside and seeing daylight at 7:00pm makes me feel like, NO, it’s not too late to go out for a walk. Not to mention that being indoors while there is still daylight is just motivation to get outside and do something. Anything!

4. Everything is blooming.

After staring at sad little trees with no leaves for the past few months, nothing is nicer than having everything bloom again in the spring. In my case, this seems to happen overnight. One day, I’ll be out and I’ll see nothing special. Then the next day, tulips, cherry blossoms, LEAVES! Everywhere! It’s always exciting to see this happen. I even have to admit that I might have been tempted to pick flowers from a neighbor’s garden at some point, but luckily, the goody-two-shoes within persevered.
 Yay flowers!

3. Summer is coming!

Summer is arguably the most exciting of the seasons. I have never heard anyone complain about hating the summertime. Spring offers us a preview to what the summer will be like. It teases us with sunshine, and keeps us optimistic as every day gets warmer and warmer. Spring is a daily reminder that beach trips, the 4th of July, Sam Adams summer ale being served everywhere, and short shorts are almost here.

2. Happiness.

Everyone seems to be in a better mood once winter ends and spring begins. Let’s compare scenarios. It’s 15 degrees outside and you have to run errands. You step outside. You’re probably thinking ‘IT’S TOO COLD FOR THIS.’ In comparison, it’s 75 degrees outside and you have to run errands. You step outside. You’re probably thinking ‘It’s nice out, I want to be outdoors.’ All of a sudden, errands don’t seem so bad. This is the effect spring seems to have on people. People are just excited to do things in the spring.

1. April showers.

I love the rain. I love EVERYTHING about the rain. Rainy days are easily my favorite type of weather. I love waking up to the sound of raindrops on my window. I love watching a movie while it’s dark and gloomy with the sound of rainfall in the background. I love holding on to my boyfriend’s arm while he holds a giant umbrella over us. I love puddles. I love after it stops raining and birds take baths in puddles (so cute). I’ll even admit that I love unexpectedly getting caught in rain (as long as I’m headed home) and being SOAKED. I think you get it by now. I love the rain.

10 Reasons I Wanted to Start Blogging

I’m finally doing it. After talking about how I’m going to start blogging for WELL over a year, here I am, finally. Part of the reason this has taken me so long is because I have wanted to start a million different blogs with a million different topics, and I just couldn’t settle on one idea. Therefore, I have decided NOT to limit myself, and instead, I will be writing top 10 lists about whatever the latest thing on my mind is, and I think the ONLY topic that is appropriate as my first entry is:

10 Reasons I Wanted to Start Blogging

10. To have fun!

Plain and simple, blogging just seems like fun! I get to write about things that interest me as often as I'd like, and by writing about these interests, I get to explore them even further! I already enjoy writing, so this just gives me an excuse to write about everything I love, as well as getting to rant about things I DON’T love.

9. Self-expression.

Isn’t this why ANYONE really starts a blog? I just want my own space where I can jot down my thoughts. My previous space for this was my iPhone’s notepad, but I’ve gotten to the point where it’s so full of random thoughts that I can’t find practical notes, like my grocery list. Unacceptable.

8. Boredom.

Not that anyone enjoys being bored, but I really HATE being bored. I hate having free time in which I can find absolutely nothing to do. For this reason, I am constantly on the search for new things to try, whether it’s places to go or hobbies I’ve never explored. Now we can add blogging to that.

7. I tend to ramble.

I can go on and on and on about topics that interest me. Ask me to tell you why I love the Patriots, why Bree was the best Housewife, why L.A. Noire is the best video game of all time, and you will be hearing me yap for quite some time. I just can’t help myself. Once I start on a topic, I just want to express ALL my opinions on it, to the point where it might be TOO many opinions. Perfect for face-to-face conversation? No. Perfect for my personal rambling space/blog? Yes!

6. It’s 2013.

Social media is not my strength. I have a Facebook, but I refuse to integrate any of my apps to it (with the exception of the highly addictive …with friends games) because I hate the thought of having EVERYONE know what I’m doing all the time. I have a Twitter, yet I only tweet when either drunk, or when I just HAVE to express my opinions on the latest award show. I have downloaded the Pinterest app THREE times onto my iPhone, only to delete it a few days later because I just don’t GET it. I have an Instagram, yet I rarely take pictures because selfies make me feel uncomfortable and I don’t feel like nagging other people to take pictures of me all the time. Needless to say, I’m not fully utilizing social media, so why NOT give this a try?

5. Timeline.

I love looking back through old Facebook pictures and remembering the good ole days. I absolutely hate having to quote Karl Lagerfeld on this one (I’ve had a mini-vendetta against him ever since he dissed my girl Heidi Klum), but “what I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” I just like looking back at different stages of my life, comparing them to where I am now, and just remembering the great times I’ve had in my youth. I figure if I can do that with old pictures, there will be a point where (depending on my ability to actually keep up with this long enough) I will look back on old blog posts and marvel at where my head was at the time.

4. Bonding with Cheyenne.

One of my BFFs Cheyenne was one of my inspirations to start this. This gurl has had a blog as long as I can remember. From an anime-loving tween to a kitchen-savvy beer goddess, she has covered dozens of topics over dozens of blogs. Now that she lives over 1500 miles away from me, we pretty much rely on our beloved iPhones and Facebook to stay in touch, so why NOT add yet another medium of communication?

3. I love lists.

Why a blog of lists? Well, I’m a messy individual. It has taken me years to be comfortable enough to admit that. I hate when things are dirty, particularly in the kitchen, but messy just makes it home to me. I have accepted this, but I’ll admit that sometime in between searching for the other shoe or for the pair of earrings I took off the night before but God-only-knows where I put them, I need SOME form of organization to balance me out. This is where lists come in. Lists make me feel like even though YES, I AM messy, it can’t be THAT bad! As long as I can alphabetically list all the books I want to read by author and perfectly arrange my grocery list so that I run into every item in aisle-order at the store, I can also somewhat claim to be organized. Right?

2. I go through phases.

This is a bit of an understatement. I can’t tell you how many phases I’ve gone through. Being obsessed with moving to New York City during my entire tween years, my two-year interest in the NBA, my three-day obsession with chicken pot pies, Katy Perry’s ‘E.T.’ for over a year…I could literally go on and on (because as you already know, I tend to ramble). This is a place where I can go ahead and gush about my latest obsessions, without having anyone remind me that I go through phases and will probably get over the latest thing in a few weeks.

1. I miss writing.

To this day, one of my favorite memories was when my 12th grade English teacher (who was kind of a hard-ass) practically had an orgasm over my senior thesis on Nathaniel Hawthorne. I’ve always been that little nerd who couldn’t wait to get papers back in school because I wanted to read the sparkling comments and give myself a pat on the back after seeing an A. I love writing. Now that I am done with my studies (for now at least), I’ve had no excuse to do any type of writing lately. So here I am!
